Wine Rack
Project
Wrapping the traditional diamond wine bottle compartments around a circle on plan seemed straight forward enough. Adding the 'Pineapple' elevational profile certainly added to the challenge. The solution was in the use of Birch plywood. The helical twisted ribs were formed from three layers of 6mm bonded together in a mould under pressure. Precision was essential but initial test pressings sprang back too much. It was, however, found effective to twist and steam the individual leaves prior to pressing.
Jointing and bottle support was achieved by polished Stainless Steel 'Antlers' which were lazer cut to profile then pressed to curvature using the trussed rafter hydraulic press. The height is 2.1m and the maximum radius 1.6m accommodating 200+ bottles.
